Most organizations try to develop leaders by sending people somewhere else. A workshop in another city. Sometimes a coaching program added to the calendar. People come back energized for a few weeks, then the business pulls them back into the same patterns that were limiting them before.
We started developing the evolution of leadership at Pinpoint Management because that approach almost never works.
Pinpoint Management began over twenty-five years ago in the Greater Salt Lake City area, originally as a marketing consultancy. The deeper we got with our clients, the more obvious it became that marketing was not the real problem. The problem was inside the business itself. Owners were generating leads they could not serve well, and growth was exposing every weakness in the operation underneath.
So we stopped being a marketing firm and became something different. Three decades of consulting experience went into developing what we now call Empowerment Design, our methodology for building leadership directly into how a business operates. Pinpoint Management is a business design firm, not a training company, and the distinction matters.
Today, under the leadership of CEO Joshua Hoecherl, we work with leaders across the country and beyond, helping them build operations that produce leadership instead of consuming it.
Empowerment Design is our methodology for building leadership into the operating system of a business. Instead of treating leadership as something people attend, we treat it as something the business produces every day through its systems, decisions, communication patterns, accountability structures, and the daily rhythm of work.
For the full breakdown, see What Is Empowerment Design and How Empowerment Design Works.
When leadership is embedded in how a business operates, leaders develop in real time. Decisions happen faster.
The founder stops being the choke point, and people start taking real ownership without being asked.
The business stops depending on personalities and starts depending on design.
Empowerment Design is the methodology we developed at Pinpoint Management. Business Design for Leadership is how it gets applied inside a business.
Most leadership development works on the individual leader. That can produce a burst of growth, but it leaves the business leaning on a few capable people to carry the decisions and hold performance together. When those people are out for a week, things stall.
Empowerment Design works on the business instead of the person. It builds leadership into how the business operates, so leadership stops being a trait a few people carry and becomes something the operation itself produces. That is the difference between developing leaders and depending on them.
Business Design for Leadership is what that looks like in practice. It is the work of building leadership into how a business runs day to day, so it holds across the whole company instead of drifting away the moment the daily work pulls people back in.
Pinpoint Management works primarily with service based business owners, though the framework applies to any operationally complex business. Most of our clients share a few things in common.
If any of that sounds like your business, the work we do is built for it.
Most leadership companies focus on the leader. We focus on the business that shaped the leader.
You can send a manager to ten workshops, but if she returns to a company where every decision still flows through the owner and where ownership has never been given anywhere to land, the workshops will not stick. We have watched this happen for decades.
Empowerment Design changes the conditions, not just the people. We do this through four integrated programs and one AI partner:
Builds clarity into how the business runs and how work moves.
Strengthens how leaders think, communicate, and respond in real time.
Expands ownership and leadership across the team.
Our AI growth companion, trained on years of executive insight, supporting decision-making inside the daily work.
Together they form the operating layer of Empowerment Design. Each one addresses a different place where leadership tends to break down inside a business.
This is what Empowerment Design changes, and Business Design for Leadership is how it gets built in. The result is a business that leans less on any one leader and holds its performance over time, because the thing producing leadership is the operation itself, not the personality running it.
Leaders Evolution is the membership environment where Empowerment Design gets applied inside real businesses. It is not a course or a one-time event. It is an environment where leadership is continuously built into how your business runs, supported by EMI, the four programs, and our team of Certified Pinpoint Strategists.
The Ripple Effect Book Series, written by our founder Joshua Hoecherl, captures the philosophy behind this work across four interconnected books: Leading Like Joseph, Built to Breathe, Beyond the Numbers, and Empowered by Design.
Leadership should not be something people visit.
It should be something the business produces every day.
Pinpoint Management developed Empowerment Design and applies it through Business Design for Leadership, so a business can build leadership into how it operates and stop depending on any single person to hold it together.
